$7.4M Verdict for Woman Crushed Between Vehicles in Freeway Truck Crash

Confidential v. B.R.& Sons

El Dabe Ritter obtained a $7.4 million jury verdict for a 31-year-old woman who suffered catastrophic injuries while stopped on the shoulder of a freeway following a minor collision.

After a fender bender, she pulled over to the side of the freeway along with three other vehicles. While she was standing outside her car, a commercial truck made an illegal lane change and struck a passenger vehicle, causing it to lose control and careen toward her. She was crushed between the front of that vehicle and the rear of her own car.

The commercial truck fled the scene. At trial, El Dabe Ritter proved that the truck driver was responsible for the collision and resulting injuries.

The crash caused severe damage to her popliteal artery, which supplies blood to the lower leg. She underwent bypass surgery to repair the artery, as well as extensive skin graft procedures. The jury awarded $7.4 million in damages, holding the defendant financially responsible for the full scope of her injuries and losses.
