RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. — A police pursuit ended in tragedy when a suspect fleeing authorities crashed into an Uber carrying 15-year-old Aadan Portillo, leaving him paralyzed from the chest down. On Oct. 5, Aadan and his friends were en route to In-N-Out when the suspect’s Nissan Altima collided with their vehicle at a local intersection.
Aadan underwent eight hours of surgery to stabilize his neck, while his friends, who escaped serious injury, have since visited him in the hospital. Despite a devastating prognosis, Aadan remains positive and determined.
The suspect, who was wanted for possible DUI, was arrested at the scene. Aadan has since been moved to a specialized care facility as his family focuses on his recovery and holds onto hope.
